Israel & Palestine
Hanif has been an outspoken supporter of the Palestinian cause. In October 2023 she was arrested at a Gaza ceasefire rally, has described Israel's actions as "genocide," voiced support for campus divestment protesters, voted against a "End Jew Hatred" day resolution in 2023, and endorsed the Leave It Blank campaign protesting U.S. military support for Israel.
Reproductive Rights
Hanif sponsored and passed the NYC Abortion Rights Act during her tenure on the City Council.
Policing & Public Safety
Hanif led a Progressive Caucus effort to reduce NYPD funding, requesting members commit to "do everything we can to reduce the size and scope of the NYPD," which led 15 members to leave the caucus. Her office has stated that involving police in public safety situations would "only escalate."
