Help & Contact
Help with OpenBorough on the web and on iPhone.
Questions, bug reports, corrections, or ideas? Email hello@openborough.nyc. We read every message. If something looks wrong on a bill or a representative's page, include a link to it.
How does OpenBorough know my districts?
You give it a location: your current location, an address, or a spot you tap on the map. We look it up against the official boundaries for City Council, State Senate, State Assembly, and Congress. To change it, open More → Change location in the iPhone app, or use the district picker on the website.
Do I need an account or an address?
No. There are no accounts. In the iPhone app, choose Explore without an address to browse bills, hearings, and officials first, and add a location whenever you want to see your own representatives.
Following bills and notifications
In the iPhone app, tap Follow on any city or state bill. We check every morning and send a notification when a bill you follow changes status. Your followed bills are under Bills → Following. Turn notifications off in More → Notifications or in iOS Settings.
Something looks wrong
Bills, votes, and records come from public sources: the NYC Council's Legistar system, the NY State Open Legislation API, NYC Open Data, and the NY State Board of Elections. Plain-language summaries and translations are written with AI and can contain mistakes, so always check the official text for anything important. If you spot an error, email us with a link and we'll fix it.
Deleting your data
In the iPhone app, More → Delete my data removes everything the app stored, on your iPhone and on our servers. On the website, clearing your browser's site data for openborough.nyc does the same. Email subscribers can unsubscribe or delete their details from the link in any email. See our Privacy Policy for details.
