This law gives the NYC Department of Investigation the authority to investigate, review, study, and audit the operations, policies, programs, and practices of the NYPD. The Commissioner of Investigation can also make recommendations based on their findings. This strengthens civilian oversight of the police department to help ensure accountability and transparency for all New Yorkers.
